do you think parents should make their own
Why is myspace so famous, and if parents are so concerned then they should make their own to moniter their kids
I think parents should create a site similar to this, and have a gurantee that there are only kids to proove this the have to fax or mail o copy of birth ceterficate id or passport so they'll know the age and parents permission also and you can only join once you mail id other than that No

I think Myspace has gained a reputation for being a place where children can be lured into engaging in behavior their parents wouldn't approve of and possibly put them at risk of greater dangers.
No I think parents should closely monitor sites that their children view and put up blockers so children aren't able to view sites like this.
I would like to comment on what Candy has posted. Just because you post some bogus place as where you live doesn't stop predators from reallying finding out where your at. Any decent hacker can find out information on your IP address and trace it. It's not that difficult to do. This type of comment reflects the fact that you are young and do not realize how dangerous situations like this can be. Teens think they know a lot when in reality they still have a lot to learn. That's why important to respect the decisions of their parents.

usually if the parents are concerned, they take action. -.-
Myspace isnt that bad if you just keep your stinken space on Private so no creeps can locate where u r until teens accept friend. Anyways, on where you live, you can put McDonald land, Kentucky or something.

No, I don't think they have to. If they have a problem with Myspace they need to be the parent and either [a] disallow their children to have one and monitor their computer closely or [b] monitor their child's site, make profile/pictures set as private, make sure no addresses are shown [or city] and make sure their kids aren't into trouble.
I have a Myspace. My sister-in-law has one too. She puts up promiscuous pictures of herself. She has less then respectable things up about herself and it just shocks me that her parents haven't the slightest idea! It's sickening.
If you are going to be a parent; PARENT. Be on kids. They can still be 'cool' but with rules and guidelines. Ugh, the Myspace thing gets on my nerves!

i think myspace gets a lot of hype on the media because people argue that it is a site used by sex predators to lure children into doing things. the truth is the problem is with the parents and they should monitor their kids. lock the damn computer in their room, only allow so much internet time. and honestly the girls who are roped into these predator things are usually acting risky, or are gullible enough to believe something a stranger tells them. the point being that those girls are either looking for trouble or have some kind of emotional issue that is not being fullfilled.
too many times you find out that the girls had risque pics of themselves up. So while i think that the predators are wrong, i think the parents are worse for not knowing what's going on and teaching their kids better.
I go on myspace to meet old friends that i have lost contact with and its cheaper and easier than calling on the phone. I have cousins and even my lil sis on their but i have seen their pages and they are only looking to talk to their friends and express their personalities. I think for most people it is safe, and a good place to talk to people, its only the people with problems and that are looking for trouble that find it.

yes i agree.

Parents need to parent, monitor what their kid is doing etc. Lock the computer away until they get home from work, etc....
I'm 28 and I use myspace, as does my mom, all of my cousins, and two old friends from high school that I just recently got back in touch with. It is a good place to find old buddies.

I don't think parents making their own is necessary. If you are uncomfortable about your child going on myspace, you should not allow it.
They wouldn't be missing out on anything special anyway.
Although parents need to show some trust for their kids, there is nothing wrong with monitoring what they do - especially on the internet.
I would only have a PC in the living room so I can watch what my children are doing aswell as adding the obvious parental controls.

my kids have them and i do too. thats why i have one to watch my kids... plus i have their passwords and they know i will look at any time to see what they are doing

my 13 year old is banned from myspace, he has never had an account and i wont let him.
i let him playout side quite freely, if he wants to socialise i want him to do it with kids his own age and not someone pretending to be his own age

Firstly anyone on myspace is required to be over 14yrs of age %26amp; is a good source for meeting new people that maybe we wouldnt get a chance to meet otherwise, secondly YES parents should always check what children are doing on the internet, as a mum of 5 ~ aged between 19 %26amp; 4 yr old ~ I have pages on ALL the sites my children use, including childrens sites %26amp; also have the PC in the family room so that I am aware what sites they use %26amp; who they are in contact with %26amp; can step in if necessary
