What do you think is the key to becoming popular/famous today? Is it technology like myspace/itunes, etc? Is it still getting out there and playing clubs and meeting people? Both? Something else? Any ideas would be great.

Fame is a myth. Music is real. People are real. Go out and make music and connect with the people. Fame is just a marketing gimic and there are only a couple more famous people living in the world than there are unicorns.

I think you misunderstood my question. I'm asking about making a living with music, like being able to quit your regular job. I'm not interested in the paparazzi fame type stuff. Report It

Well, there's the horrible x-factor route to fame, if that's all you're after!
If you want to make music because you love it, I think you need to be
- brilliantly original
- technically able: eg. to use modern home recording technology
- prepared to play any gig that you can get
