Is it unrealistic for me to want to be a musician?

I really don't have a goal for my future yet, cuz im only in eigth grade, but i kinda wanna be a musician. im not looking to be famous or anything, just record some songs and put them on my myspace er somethin like that. im a pretty good singer and iv got some piano skills. id consider taking voice lessons and stuff, but what do you guys think?

Is it unrealistic for me to want to be a musician?

no it is not if that is what you want to do then you should go for it like i want to be a musisian and a lawyer so just go for it if that is what you really want to do.

Yeah, kind of. Even if you are amazing, a record company has to want you and you have to have a good manager and it is all very difficult.

Go for it.

I have decided, after many idea changes, to be a marine mammal Zooologist or something along those lines. I may never get it but you can always try.

But when you start to take options and go on to colleges etc, don't specialise too much, keep open options.

By the way, this answer may be useless because I dont really have a clue what age 8th grade is being English and all. Lol

Maybe consider it as a hobby? My best friend is an accountant in NYC and makes fabulously good money doing that. Because of his financial stability, he can afford his piano, books, and to spend money on his art. He has even performed on the met. Someday he would love to be a famous countertenor (male soprano). However, until that day, he sticks with the accounting thing because it is stable and provides a good life for him. He still gets to do what he loves most but it's not determining whether he gets to eat that week or not. Going straight up music is very hard. I should know, it's the path I chose. And I work for 9.49 an hour in a group home part time on third shift...

For your future yes unless, you are a great musician or later develoup it. If you just want to record a song and put it on myspace then that is a hobby, as a career you have two choices, make it big or become a teacher.

Is it unrealistic for me to want to be a musician?

ABSOLUTELY YES ! do it go for it.i have ben playing guitar

since 1965. and because of my music, i have met people and did things and ben places i would have NEVER ben able to

otherwise.i have trvavled the east coast and made friends all over that would never have happened if my father had not put a guitar in my hand fourty years ago.some of the kids i went to school with were into trouble and some died even.

all those times i was at home practiceing my music,i wasnt with them. you might say it is a life saver.if you are a parent, get your kids into music,if you are a student, bug your parents for an instrument until you get one.Never listen to people who say its not in you, people who doubt you,you PLAY YOUR MUSIC THE BEST YOU CAN FOR AS LONG AS YOU CAN !!

Now is the time to start and discover what you want to do. Learn all you can, and practice your piano, voice and anything else you can. Take up the trumpet or drums or bass guitar.

The reality is that most musicians have a day job and play in a band a night or weekends. Most never make it "big" and if they do it is a short run of fame.

I am in a band right now with my husband and I work a day job. My husband has his masters in music composition and theory and teaches music in a school during the day. We know many people in band in our city and most are doing what we do. If you do know someone who is making a living, they are traveling tons and doing parties and functions and huge festivals. Lots of travel.

Become a musician because you love music and cannot live without it, or because you write songs that must be sung and played. Do not became a musician to make money. You will be disappointed

My band made a whopping $100 in tips at our last 2 hr gig and we are pretty good. you can check us out and hear some short clips from our CD. http://bandmix.com/search/details.php?p=...

This is why we are called starving artists. :-)
